(A graphic description of Jesus' death.)

Jesus mission was to provide forgiveness of sins and salvation for mankind -- salvation for you and me.  (See my paper:  WHY JESUS.)  He identified himself as the Son of God by performing miracles and by telling of the kingdom of God.

Jesus went to the garden on the night before he was killed.  He prayed:  "If it be possible take this cup from me.   But not my will but thine be done."  Mark 14:36.   What was it he wanted taken away?    He was to be tortured and killed and separated from God the Father.    Matthew 27:46.

However, there was no other way.   It was not possible for Jesus to accomplish his mission without going to the cross and through all of the inclusive torture that was coming.   There was no plan "B".    There was no other way for you to be saved.   There was no other way for you to be forgiven.    It had to be set up so that you could go through Jesus and get to heaven and to God.

Jesus knew what was coming.  The worst part was that he would be separated from God -- like you will be if you do not accept Jesus as your savior.   2 Thessalonians 1:8-9.

Pilate sentenced him to be scourged and crucified.   Matthew 27:26.   The soldiers tied him to a post and put a bag over his head.   They said to him:  "If you are a prophet, prophecy and tell us who hit you."   Then one of them slugged him in the face when he could not see it coming.   Luke 22:64.  They tied him to a post and whipped him thirty-nine times with a Roman seven tailed cat.  The whip had pieces of iron tied to the tips of the lashes so that they would tear away the flesh with each stroke.   Each strike of the whip left a stripe across his back.   The Bible says:  "...with his stripes you were healed."   1 Peter 2:24.

The soldiers formed a crown of thorns.   The thorns were 2 to 3 inches long.   They jammed the crown on the top of his head and proclaimed him crowned King of the Jews.   Matthew 27:29.   They then gave him a cross and forced him to carry the instrument of his own death up the hill to the place where he would be crucified.   Jesus could not carry the cross all of the way so they drafted a bystander to carry the cross the rest of the way.  Matthew 27:32, John 19:17.

They laid the cross on the ground and spread out Jesus arms.  They used nails that weighed 2 1/2 pounds to nail each hand to the cross bar.  And one more nail to nail his feet to the upright.   They raised him up and dropped the cross into the hole that had been dug to receive it.   As Jesus hung on the cross, he hung down so far that he could not breath.   So he had to raise himself up, by pushing against the nail through his feet, to catch a breath.  Then the pain was so great that he eased down to relieve the pressure on his feet until he could not breath again.   Then he repeated the process.   For hours he did this.

Then he died.

While he was on the cross, god left him.  Mark 15:34.   This was the most horrible part of all.

Satan thought Jesus had sinned.  Why else would God have allowed this to happen to him.  So Satan took Jesus to hell.    Because Jesus had not sinned, it was illegal for Satan to take him to hell.  Satan violated the conditions of his contract.   He lost his authority over anyone who would accept Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Jesus preached the gospel to all of the captives of hell and then led captivity captive up into heaven.  Ephesians 4:8.  Jesus shouted:  "I have the keys to hell and death."  Revelation 1:18.   "I have overcome the world."   John 16:33.   Satan's power was ended.  Colossians 2:15.

Jesus made the way for you to get to heaven.   You have to accept it.   You have to ask for it.   You have to say:  'Jesus save me."   Romans 10:13.   "God in the Name of Jesus, forgive me."   Romans 3:23-26.   Jesus be my Lord (my Boss)."  Romans 10:9.   There is no other way.   If there was another way, Jesus would not have gone to the cross.   Jesus would not have submitted to being beaten, whipped, crowned, and crucified.

When the soldiers came for Jesus, he spoke to them and his words knocked them down.  John 18:6.  They had torches and sticks.   John 18:3.   When they fell down they must have dumped the torches onto their buddies.   They must have poked their friends with their sticks.   Jesus just stood there and waited for them to get up.   Jesus disciples scattered.  Mark 14:50.  The pressure was just too much for them.   They ran.   Only Peter stayed.    He pulled out a sword and cut off an ear.   Matthew 26:51.   Jesus said:  (I paraphrase)  "Cool it, Pete.   If I needed help, I could call for 72,000 angels and they would get me out of this mess.   But I have to do this because there is no other way."  Matthew 26:53-54.   He put the ear back on the man's head.   Luke 22:50-51.   Peter ran.   Jesus could have gotten away, but he submitted to the will of God the Father.

You cannot work your way to heaven.  Ephesians 2:8-9.  You cannot buy your way into heaven.   You cannot get some good guy to pray for you to get to heaven.    If you could, there would be another way and Jesus would not have gone to the cross.   Jesus is the only way.  There is no other name by which we must be saved.   Acts 4:12.   You must accept it.   Or go to hell.   There you will be without God for all eternity.  2 Thessalonians 1:8-9.  It will be horrible.   The worm does not die and the fire does not quench.   Mark 9:43-48.

I do not want anyone to go to hell.  Therefore, I pray:   "Dear God, in the Name of Jesus, help anyone who reads this to accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord.   Thank you.   Amen."
