Forgiveness and Healing

In the Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:12 we say: “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 but if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Forgive us our debts in the same way that we forgive our debtors. We have recited the Lord’s Prayer all of our lives.   Asking God to forgive us in the same way that we forgive our debtors.  God hears and answers our prayers.

In the same way that we forgive our debtors --  except for that rotten so and so that did me dirt long ago and I still remember; except for my ex-wife or ex-husband; except for that guy that stole from me or lied to me or slandered me, or cheated me -- No exceptions!

Matthew 18:21 How many times must I forgive my brother? Jesus answered;;”70 times 7” He probably did not mean 490 times he probably meant many times or every time.

Mark 11:25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. The implication here is that if you do not forgive, then your prayers will not be answered because God cannot forgive you and you are no longer eligible to ask for anything. You must forgive first.

In Jesus we are able to go before God, plead for forgiveness, plead the blood of Jesus over our sins, and be forgiven. Then, since you are clean before the Father, we can pray and believe we receive and then get the answers to our prayers. But we can not be forgiven if we do not forgive.

When four friends brought a paralytic to Jesus, he forgave his sins. Then he said “so that you may know that the Son of Man has the authority to forgive sins I tell you get up and walk.”  The implication here is that the power to forgive sins is the same power that heals the sick.  And that when forgiveness comes healing soon follows.  The power of forgiveness is the same power as the power of healing.   However, forgiveness is a key that unlocks the healing power.  Unforgiveness blocks the healing power.

You have the authority to forgive sins.  But sometimes you do not want to.  Jesus commanded us to forgive. Would you rather hold a grudge or obey Jesus?  I would rather obey Jesus.

Dear God, I choose to obey Jesus.  He told me to forgive, and I choose to obey.  Therefore, I declare it to be my will to obey Jesus and forgive that rotten so and so in accordance with Jesus command.  I ask you, Lord God, to help me to obey and to forgive.  Thank you Lord Jesus!
