The year was 2005 -- a very good year.

I was having breakfast at the Scandia Bakery (now out of business) in Stanwood. The waitress seemed distraught. I asked what was wrong. She told me that her husband was about to see a specialist and they were afraid that he would be diagnosed with cancer. I never even found out his name.

Later that day, at home, I prayed that the doctors would not find any cancer and he would be cancer free.

Two weeks later I asked the waitress how her husband was. She said that no cancer was found and he immediately went home and started plowing the garden.
